Brands
Brands play a very important role in the identification and proper management of both horses and cattle, especially when working with large numbers of animals like we do here at Running U Quarter Horses.
The Running U brand, along with six other brands, date back to 1854 when they were owned by George Alma George. George Alma later passed these seven brands on to his son, Elmer. Elmer kept only the Running U brand, and eventually passed it on to his son, William "Devoe" George. Devoe then passed the brand off to his son, Terry, who is still active on the ranch today. Terry's daughter, Jolyn, and her husband, Shamus, now brand with the Running U. This brand is now registered to the fifth generation and will someday be passed down to Shamus and Jolyn's daughters.
The Running U brand is used on both cattle and horses and is applied at the same time that vaccinations are given and other procedures are performed. This process usually takes less than 30 seconds.
